Director Karan Singh Tyagi, in an interview with the film Shilmi, addressed the controversial phrase. Tyagi said that the team took into account the historical context while deciding to use such a phrase. According to his research, he realized that the term was born in the 16th century. He did further research and consulted historians before including it.
At the trailer launch event, Akshay Kumar was asked about the use of derogatory language in the film. In response, the actor focused on another striking line used in the film, saying “Yes, I used the word. But it is surprising that you have paid attention to it, yet the ‘you are still a slave’, the phrase was not considered a big insult. I think it could not cause even greater insults.”
Kesari Chapter 2 also stars R Madhavan and Ananya Pandey. The film was released in theaters on 18 April.
