Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelansky wrote a message of unity and faith on Easter Sunday, as he accused the Russian forces of violating a temporary ceasefire, which was earlier declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Evil may have its own hour, but will be the day of God,” Zelancesi posted on X. In the post, he called for Christ’s grief and resurrection to inspire Asha for peace and victory. He said, “May Evils Hour and. May the day of life comes. Day of peace. The day of Ukraine. The day that lasts for centuries,” he wrote.
“Christ has increased! He has really woken up!”, He wrote further.
Their message came when the two sides accused each other of violating the 30-hour ceasefire declared by Moscow from 6:00 pm on Saturday evening from 6:00 pm on Sunday evening. Despite the announcement, Zelansky said Russian soldiers continued firing and started attacks with the front.
In a separate post, Zelansky wrote that Ukraine recorded at least 387 shelling incidents and 19 attacks from Saturday evening to midnight. The Easter morning, another 59 shelling cases and five Russian attacks were logged into Donnetsk, Starobbillsk and Zaporizhia regions. Dozens of FPV drone strikes were also reported.
“In some regions, Russia is still making isolated efforts to pursue losses and damage the loss on Ukraine,” Zelancesi on Sunday wrote citing a frontline report of Commander-in-Chief Serksi.
Zelansky reiterated that Ukraine proposed a 30-day ceasefire expansion, which “stays on the table.” He insisted that the Kiev would continue to function on the basis of “real status on the ground”. The Ukrainian President also warned against relying on Moscow’s conflict stop promises, in view of the previous rejection of Russia’s Kiev’s proposal for full, unconditional Trus.
Putin participated in an Easter service in Moscow a few hours after announcing the ceasefire. However, there was no description from the Kremlin of how it would be implemented or monitored, and Russian authorities accused Ukraine of violating Trus in Kharals.
Soldiers and citizens of both sides suspected. The AFP cited the Ukrainian frontline troops, who doubted the honesty of Moscow’s Trus, while some Russian citizens felt there was no need for restraint.
Despite the clashes, Easter Sunday saw a rare exchange of prisoners of war. According to the AFP, 246 soldiers were swapped on each side in the UAE -mediated deal, causing the total number of Ukrainian POWs that returned to 4,552.
In his address, Zelansky underlined the ongoing fight for Ukraine’s peace and freedom, saying, “We are united in it … we fight together for Ukraine. And we pray for Ukraine together.”
