Xi Jinping warned of ‘self-Bhoj’ in the first response to Trump tariffs, called us to oppose the European Union to oppose ‘bullying’

New Delhi: In his first public response to the widespread tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday warned that “there are no winners in tariff war” and could be “self-soaked” from facing the international community.
Xi said, “For seven decades, China’s growth has been filled with self -reliance and hard work, which never depends on the favor with others and never back down in front of improper oppression.”
“No matter how the external environment changes, China will maintain its resolve and meditation, dedicating its own matters to manage efficiently.”
Xi’s comments came to Beijing during a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, where the Chinese leader urged the European Union to join China in opposing unilateral and economic coercion – an underlying reference to the United States.
“China and Europe should fulfill their international responsibilities … and jointly oppose unilateral bullying practices,” Xi said, such cooperation will help in “international fairness and justice” with such cooperation “safety of their own valid rights and interests”.
Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, Sanchez accepted the trade imbalance of the European Union with China, but insisted that trade tensions should not derail widespread diplomatic and economic relations.
“Both Spain and Europe have an important trade deficit with China that we should work to improve,” said Sanchez. “But we should not give trade tension in the way of potential development of relations between China and Spain and China and the European Union.”
Spain exports about 45 billion goods from China annually, exporting € 7.4 billion in the country, making China’s fourth largest business partner.
The journey of Sanchez comes in a significant moment, as the European Union rethinks its global trade posture amidst instability in the market launched by the latest tariff of Trump administration. It marks China’s third visit to China’s Spanish Prime Minister in just two years.
During his last visit in September 2024, in a notable step, Sanchez wandered with the consensus of the European Union by urging the reconsideration of the planned tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles instead of “proper trade order”.
Before reaching Beijing, Sanchez visited Hanoi, where he and Vietnamese Prime Minister Fam Minh Chinh signed a joint announcement to upgrade bilateral relations in a comprehensive strategic partnership.
