US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Mexico on Thursday, until the water supply to Texas grows under the long -standing Treaty, threatened business results.
Through his true social platform, Trump said, “Mexico is stealing water from Texas farmers” and “the only sugar mill shutdown in Texas last year due to water scarcity.
Trump violated a 1944 agreement in Mexico, where the United States provides the Colorado River water in exchange for Rio Grande that flows along their shared boundary.
He further announced that, “We will continue to increase the results including tariffs and, perhaps, including restrictions, unless the Mexico Treaty respects.”

According to bilateral Water Commission data, the current treaty period ends due to more than 1.55 billion cubic meters of the United States in October.
On Thursday, Mexican President Claudia Shinbam claimed a treaty compliance of his administration during the drought condition, “to the extent of water availability”. He announced through platform X that his government had sent a “comprehensive proposal” to the US State Department, expressing confidence in reaching an agreement.
“Yesterday, a comprehensive proposal was sent to the US State Department’s under -government to address a water supply to Texas under the 1944 Treaty, including very short -term action. It is three years drought, and water is available, complying with Mexico. The international border and water commission has continued its work.
Officers’ details were offered, in which he said, “I have directed the secretaries of agriculture and rural development and foreign affairs as well as the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, immediately to contact the US Agriculture Department and the US State Department. I am confident that, on other issues, a compromise will be made.”
Mexico delayed delivery in a long -term drought condition affecting the Rio Grande Basin. Meanwhile, American agricultural communities and politicians criticized the delayed delivery pattern of Mexico at the cycle end and current deficiency.
In November, the two countries signed an agreement to prevent water scarcity in Southern American states through Mexican Water Distribution Commitment.
Previous Mexican efforts to fulfill the treaty obligations have led to civil unrest. In 2020, the farmers of Chihuahua captured a dam, preventing the transfer of reservoir in the United States, resulting in a conflict with the National Guard forces and a deadly.
