Meanwhile, talking to some journalists outside the court on Wednesday, James, who was extradited from the UAE in 2018, said the prisoners cut the “deal” for “special treatment” inside Tihar. He described his time in jail, now more than six years, not waste of time but “very good experience” despite the prison being “terrible” and dangerous “place.
However, underlining the danger for his life, he said, “I don’t know how many times, but I was tried to poison me. The person who tried was surprised that I survived.”
The court also directed the jail superintendent to provide a table fan to James, in view of his orders by the authorities. The judge said, “The court has already allowed it. He is still an undertrial (prisoner). The Superintendent will have to provide this fan. He is from abroad. It is 42 degrees in Delhi.”
James’ fellow prisoners, in the report by Undertrial Shahnawaz, said that he received 41 punishment for his conduct in prison after 2020 in several cells in the reform facility.
Decorations were to keep disorganized behavior and prohibited articles, it said. The report also mentions that Shahnawaz was in Tihar Jail Cell No. 1 from November 2018 to October 2019, during which there was no complaint against him.
This was the period during which James alleged that she was tried to poison her.
