New Delhi: Ashwani Kumar’s sensational four wickets on IPL debut and 62 unbeaten Mumbai Indians of Ryan Ricelton to win eight wickets over Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhedi Stadium on Monday.
The 23-year-old left-handed seamor of Jhanjeri, Punjab, became the first Indian to take four wickets on an IPL debut, ending with figures of 3–0-24–4 to end KKR’s batting lineup.

With just four senior T20s, four one game list, and two Ranji Trophy matches before the start of their IPL, Ashwani’s performance indicated MI’s bowling dominance. Deepak Char (2/19), Trent Balt (1/23) and Hardik Pandya (1/10) well supported him to KKR for season-lo 116 in 16.2 overs.
Despite Rohit Sharma’s early dismissal for 13, Ricelton (62* 41, 4x4s, 5x6s) followed his first IPL fifty. Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive 9-ball 27*, to eliminate six, the first win of the Mi season was with 7.1 overs with 7.1 overs.
Before adding Rinku Singh (17), removing Ajinkya Rahane (11), Ashwani hit his first ball, sub -Manish Pandey (17) and Andre Russell (5) in his tally. Bault and four removed openers Quinton de Kock (1) and Sunil Narin (0) within the first two overs.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi (26) briefly opposed but went to Pandya.
