Who is Anita Anand? Indian origin appointed as Canadian Foreign Minister

Indian -origin Canadian politician Anita Anand has been appointed as the new Foreign Minister of Canada in a major cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Mark Carney.Anand replaced Melani Jolie in her role and first served as the Defense Minister of the country. He took an oath on the Bhagavad Gita with his hand, a tradition that he has also followed in the previous cabinet appointments.The 58-year-old was born to her mother from Indian immigrant parents-Punjab and her father from Tamil Nadu in Nova Scotia. He has enacted a strong career in law, teaching and public service.Before entering politics, he worked as a corporate advocate and joined an Ontario government expert in 2015. She was elected MP from Okville in 2019 and later became the Minister of Public Services and Procurement during the Kovid -19 epidemic, after becoming the Defense Minister.Anand is married to Canadian lawyer and business executive John Noleton, and has four children. Although he recently announced a plan to move away from politics, the fall of former PM Trudeau government and Carney’s rise brought him back under the leadership.Anand has four degrees, including BA in political studies from Queen University (Gold Medal winner), BA in Jayastra from Oxford, a law degree from Dalhousie and Master of laws from the University of Toronto.There is a reshuffle as Carney creates its newly elected Liberal government. His cabinet consists of 28 ministers and introduces the state secretaries to indicate a new beginning from the Trudeau era.Anand became the first Hindu to serve in the federal cabinet of Canada in 2019. He has earned praise for his disciplined and concentrated approach, especially during his time in the Ministry of Defense.Carney’s appointments balanced the experience and diversity, making women half of the cabinet.Changes come between Canada-US relations. Carney has promised to be firm on business especially against US President Donald Trump. In a statement, Carney said that the cabinet was chosen to “give a change to the Canadian fans and to change the need.”Anand visited Vaishno Devi temple in Okville on Mother’s Day. He posted on X: “It warmed my heart to see so many families in #oakville that our mothers are coming to celebrate and remember together.”
