We want our guardian back, RPP says, calls for Hindu nation

Kathmandu: Swati ThapaMembers of the Central Committee of the Restria Prajatantra Party (RPP) weigh their words carefully. “People want the king back,” she says. “Not as a ruler. As a guardian. A stable force. And they want Nepal to be restored as one Hindu nationThese are no longer political slogans – they are a tendency to exist. ,
RPP was formed in 1990 after the restoration of multi-party democracy. It began with four seats in the 1991 elections and maintained his presence, often played the role of kingmaker. In 2022, RPP won 14 out of 275 seats in Parliament. The party was part of the current coalition government till 2023 February.
His party has long met these demands: a return to a constitutional monarchy, removing the “expensive” federal structure of the country, and restoring as a Hindu state of Nepal. Nepal’s return as a Hindu nation is central for RPP’s vision. “This country became secular without asking its people. This is the truth,” he said. “We believe that more than 80% Nepal still wants a Hindu state.”
Thapa removed the concern that RPP’s agenda could separate moderates or minorities. “It does not mean discrimination. This means what we have. We respect every religion. But we will not lose ourselves in this process. Why should we apologize for our roots?” He said. She alleges that especially in remote and poor areas – “fierce” conversion – the country’s cultural taunts are changing. “Foreign aid is being used to change who we are,” he said, nominating Western agencies as ambassadors.
The re -emergence of former King Gyanendra Shah has been a flashpoint in the country. He confirmed that the RPP maintains contact with the royal family. On the difficult topic of succession – especially Gyanendra’s son, Paras -Thapa is given public discomfort. “We have clearly stated: Succession should not be automated. The next emperor must be selected on the basis of trust and ability …” This also came because RPP said that Paras told the party that he does not want to be a king.
