A hungry elephant, walking through a nearby national park in search of food, entered a grocery store in Thailand and started eating snacks. The viral incident was recorded and shared in many social media platforms. According to the video, a huge male elephant, named Plyi Beyang Lake, stopped in front of a feature store located near Kho Yai National Park. He entered the store and carelessly grabbed the snacks with his trunk and started eating them without any fear. Even when the park workers tried to leave him, the elephant was not scared and he did not go.The elephant did not cause any major damage except to release dirty footprints on the floor and to damage the roof of the store. He went out of the bus store, holding a bag of snacks with his trunk.

Wild elephant raids a grocery store in Thailand for snacks

Kamplooy Kakaew, the shop owner was surprised by the whole incident as he described his encounter with the elephant. He said that he had eaten about nine bags of sweet rice crackers, a sandwich and some dried bananas that he had bought that morning.He left after receiving his snacks without hurting someone.Danai Sukkanthachat, a volunteer park worker, familiar with Ply Biang Lake, said the elephant is about 30 years old. Lake has previously entered people’s homes in search of food, but this was the first time he was seen in a grocery store.He told AP, “After leaving the shop, he went to open a bedroom window from another house.” Danai said that wild elephants have been coming out of the forest to raid the kitchen of people for many years in the Khao Yai National Park, but this year they have started seeing them going to random places to find food.According to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Protection, there are about 4,000 wild elephants in Thailand by 2024.Since farmers expand agricultural activities in forest areas, elephants are being taken out of their shrinking houses in search of food, which increases the risk of dangerous encounters with humans.
