Two people have been killed and 17 others were injured when Mexican Navy training vessel Kyuhetmok crashed at Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday night, creating a rigid scene as the sailors were seen hanging from the damaged mast over the deck.The phenomenon occurred around 8:30 pm local time, when a three-mastol ship, measured in about 300 feet in length, apparently lost power and moved backwards in the historic bridge. The huge mast of the vessel due to the collision, at a height of some 150 feet, to attack the snap under the bridge and in succession.The news agency AP quoted officials as saying, “The sailors were seen in rigging on the damaged masts, but notable, no one fell into the water.”New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Sunday confirmed that out of 277 people, 19 with continuous injuries, two deadly and two in serious condition. Adams posted on the social media platform X, “Earlier, the Mexican Navy Tall Ship Quhemok lost power and crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge.”Eyewitnesses described dramatic scenes as sailors clung to ropes, unable to descend for several minutes after effect. “We saw someone just hanging there,” remembered the witness Lily Katz. “He was hanging from a harness near the top for 15 minutes, before he helped him.”Cuauhtémoc, launched in 1982, was on a global goodwill journey and completed a stop in Manhattan. The vessel, mainly carrying naval cadets, was scheduled to visit 22 ports in 15 countries before returning home in December. Prior to the accident, the ship welcomed visitors in Pier 17 from 13–17 May.

While the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, dating back in 1883, was killed during the event, there was no significant structural damage from early inspections. Although the traffic was temporarily suspended, the bridge has reopened since the bridge. City officials have started a comprehensive inspection by the Transport Department.The next destination of the ship was to be Iceland as part of its extended training mission, which included stops employed in France, Scotland, Cuba and Jamaica.
