The impact site located next to an access road near Terminal 3, a pit is 25 meters wide and several meters deep, less than one kilometer than the runway. The explosion did not damage any terminal buildings or runways, although it created alarm in the area and forced a temporary suspension of the airport operation.
The Israeli army said it made several attempts to stop the missile, but admitted uncertainty on whether the pit was due to missile or pieces from defense systems. The Houthi rebels later claimed responsibility, stating that they had launched a hypersonic ballistic missile in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded with a warning. According to AFP, he said, “We have worked against him in the past and we will work in the future, but I cannot go into detail (…) It will not be in a blast, but there will be many bangs.”
