Kiren Rijiju: Why Earth Science Minister Rijiju is upset with this European IT company

Earth Science Minister Kiren Rijiju Allegedly upset French IT Company AtosThe reason is said that the delivery of two super computers by the French company is delayed Indian institute of weather forecastingAccording to a report by news agency PTI, Ministry of Earth Sciences To increase the computing capabilities of its institutions, two super computers worth $ 100 million were ordered from ATOS Group’s French firm Aviden last year – National Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) and The National Center Indian institute of tropical meteorology (IITM).
Rijuju told PTI in a video interview, “I am more upset because the goal we set was December. The Union Cabinet already approved to buy a supercomputer. We have only four petflop capacity. We want to install up to 18 Petflop capacity.”
He said that the French company ran into some financial trouble and wanted the government to pay its subsidiary.
The minister says that late he is getting “worry”
Rijiju said that the delay has caused him a lot of concern as the company has oversee the timeline. “But I think we will solve it soon,” he said that the government wanted to be “legally very correct in our position”.
The minister said, “We are ready to release the money because we want the machine immediately. The only problem is that the amount is not small. So if we pay now, if the company is bankrupt or something like this, then who will bail,” the minister said.
Rijiju further said that the government was taking some steps to speed up the delivery of supercomputers, but was not detailed. “But I hope that the French government will also intervene because we have a good understanding and a very good relationship with the French government.

“From outside, everything is ready. It is only a problem with the main company. They want us to pay their subsidiary. We will only pay a company with which we have entered a compromise memorandum,” Rijiju said.
Aviden’s Bultena XH2000 -based supercomputeing system, said that there is a joint power capacity of up to 21.3 petaflops.
Supercomputer in IITM
The supercomputer at Pune -based IITM will provide 13 petflops of computing power for environment and climate research. According to the PTI report, it will integrate 3,000 CPU nodes using AMD EPYC 7643 processor and 26 GPU nodes via Nvidia A100 tensor core GPU. The system will benefit from in-network computing, 3PB all flash and 29PB disc-based DDN Exascaale ES400NVX2 storage and Micron High-Technology Memory from NVIDIA Quantum Infiniband networking platform.
The existing computing facility in NCMRWF has 2.8 petflops and IITM has 4 petaflops respectively.
