Shareing his shock and sadness, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim said, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the terrible incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event. We will work to provide more information as soon as possible, but at this time @vankouverpd has confirmed that there are many malignant and many injuries at the moment.
NDP leader Jagmeet Singh expressed his terror, saying, “In Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Day celebrations, fearful and injured people killed innocent people to learn from an incident.” He raised his views for the victims, their families and the Filipino community.
Conservative leader Pierre Poilevere also responded, “Surprised by the horrific news emerging from the festival in Vancouver. My views are with the Philippino community and all the victims are targeted by this insensitive attack. The first thanks to the responsibilities who are in the scene, as we wait for more.”
The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident has been detained, but the authorities have not yet released much information about the driver’s identification or attack circumstances. As the investigation continues, Vancouver mourns tragic losses in the Filipino community and widespread city.
