AR Rahman shared how Ashutosh Govarkar persuaded him to give him the song ‘Khwaja’ for Jodha Akbar of Hrithik Roshan-Ashwariya Rai: ‘I originally made it for myself’.

Story behind ‘Khwaja Mere Khwaja’
Asked if he had ever given a personal creation, AR Rahman shared that Khwaja Mere Khwaja was originally made for himself. Director Ashutosh Gowariker approached him, saying that he needs a song about Khwaja Sahib for a scene where Akbar goes to meet Ajmer. Rahman was surprised that Ashutosh also knew about singing.
He told him, “I have made a song – but you can’t change anything.” After hearing this, Ashutosh insisted on using it in the film. In this way the intimate track became part of Jodha Akbar, even though it was something that Rahman had created for his spiritual relationship.
