UK net migration fell from half to 431,000 in 2024: official figures

The figures were released by the National Statistics (ONS)

Pure migration in the UK was halved for 431,000 people in 2024, the latest official figures were shown on Thursday, which study difficult tasks and visa restrictions. The National Statistics (ONS) office estimated 431,000 for the year, below 860,000 in the year from December 2023, the biggest decline in net migration since Kovid epidemic.ONS said in its latest report, “Long -term net migration has decreased by about 50 percent.”It especially recorded “increase in migration from 12 months to December 2024” on work and study visas. The previous orthodox government had a strict position for those applying for such visas, set high cap on salary and refused to bring people with them. But Immigration has become a hot-button issue in the UK politics, and Labor Prime Minister Kir Stmper unveiled the difficult new immigration policies earlier this month, swearing to “end control” at the end of the UK borders.Measures include cutting foreign care workers, doubling the length of time before the migrants, which can achieve qualification for settling and new powers to deport foreign criminals.A former human rights lawyer, who voted for the UK to remain a part of the European Union, is under renewed pressure to deal with immigration following the benefit of the anti -immigration party in the recent local elections.
