Trump wants Harvard to ‘apologize’, White House says that as funding fight escalats

US President Donald Trump has raised pressure on Harvard University, demanding that the institution apologize that it and his administration claim to promote antismitism.
The White House press secretary, Karolin Lewitt told reporters on Tuesday, “Trump wants to see Harvard apologizing. And Harvard should apologize.”
The statement is on the truth social on Trump’s post, where he warned that Harvard could lose his tax-free situation. “Perhaps Harvard should lose his tax-free position and be taxed as a political institution if it supports political, ideological and terrorist-inspired/’disease’? Remember, remember, tax-free situation is completely casual to work in public interest!” He has written.
Last week, the Trump administration granted at $ 2.2 billion in grant and over $ 60 million in contracts. Harvard freeze after refusing to follow a new federal instruction released on 3 April. The order demanded the abolition of the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) offices of the university, its recruitment and changes in admission policies, and cooperation with immigration for international students.
In response, Harvard said that the instruction first violates the amendment and carries forward the legal authority of the federal government. The university said in a public statement, “There is no government – no matter what the party is in power – it should be decided what private universities can teach, which they can accept and hire, and what studies they can conduct, and what studies they can do,” the university said in a public statement.
The administration’s task force behind the funding freeze is necessary to protect civil rights and taxpayers are necessary to ensure accountability. However, Harvard says it is open to dialogue – but not for illegal demands.
