Trump Torch Princeton’s Climate Fund, Research Fuel says ‘Chinta’

The Department of Commerce on Tuesday announced that it was drawing $ 4 million in federal funding from Princeton University, a step that is a setback for climate research projects associated with the reputed institute.
According to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik, funding deduction “National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) followed a detailed, careful and intensive review of the department’s financial assistance programs against the purpose of the current program.” Funding expiration is effective on 30 June.
The decision especially affects research efforts associated with NOAA, which is a sub-agency within the department, including the Earth System (CIMES) modeling for the cooperative institute of Princeton. The department argued that these projects have no longer align with the mission of NOAA or with the priorities of President Donald Trump’s administration.
The Trump administration emphasized that the cut is “part of the broad effort to reduce and reduce the cost and size of the federal government,” in line with the President’s promise. The news release said, “The Department of Commerce is fulfilling that promise.”
In the financial year 2024, Princeton University received a total of $ 455 million in federal funding. The Department of Commerce now says that some of those funds have supported climate modeling and predictions which are no longer in favor of administration.
CIMES program, as described on its website, has contributed significantly to developing and moving climate and marine models. Postdox and graduate students educationHowever, the department criticized the initiative, stating that it promotes “exaggerated and impossible climate threats, which contributes to an event known as ‘climate anxiety’, which has increased significantly among the youth of America.”
Other affected agreements include interactive sub-seasonal agreement for climate risk and seasonal prediction projects. The department claimed that earlier “suggests that the Earth would result in a significant ups and downs in the availability of water as a result of global warming, whereas the focus on assessing climate-related risks such as sea-level growth and converted rainfall patterns. The statement said, “It aims to address coastal floods, while other more targeted research efforts are addressing the issue.”
The Commerce Department emphasized that the future review of the financial awards “will continue on a personal basis to avoid waste government spending – whether they are for Princeton or any other recipient.”
This funding cut comes between a wave of investigation directed in educational institutions. Since October 7, 2023, Hamas -led attacks on Israel, the Trump administration has investigated several schools on allegations of antisemitis and has cut funding to many universities, who are accused of allowing anti -Israel protests on their premises.
