California which is the 5th largest economy in the world Gavin newsom Appeal to countries to exclude California-made products from taxes. “Donald Trump’s tariffs do not represent all Americans,” Newsom said in a video announcement posted to X.
Newsom, who was once married to Kimberly Guilfoyal, said Donald Trump’s ambassador to Greece said that he has directed his administration to “expand the business” and “seek new opportunities to remind business partners around the world that California remains a stable partner.”
The Newsom administration said that they were concerned that California’s almond industry, a major agricultural exporter, would lose billions of dollars in the form of nations such as China, India and European Union, which would proceed to implement retaliation.
Donald Trump unveiled a major tariff scheme on 2 April, the liberation day for the US, in which he imposed a 10 percent baseline tariff on all imports with high rates to other countries based on his tax on American products. Tariffs include 34 percent tax on imports from China, 20 percent tax on imports from European Union, 25 percent on South Korea, 24 percent on Japan and 32 percent on Taiwan. Mexico and Canada, most of which Americans import, are exempted from Trump’s latest tariffs, but last month, 25 percent of tariffs imposed by Trump in both countries will remain.
White House reacts to Newsom’s separate plan for California
White House spokesman Kush Desai told Fox that Gavin Newsom should focus on the burning issues of California instead of trying his hand in international deals. Desai said, “Gavin Newsom should focus on out-of-control in California, crime, rules and ineffectiveness in California instead of trying his hand on international behavior.”
