No nationwide rollout of satellite toll from May 1, to continue fastag-based toll collection: Government

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MRTH) dismissed the report on Friday, stating that A Satellite-based tolling system Currently nationwide will be rolled from 1 May 2025 Fastag system,
Explaining the speculation, the ministry said that no such decision has been taken and the public should not be misled by the rejected claims in the media.
Morth said that an automated number plate recognition (ANPR) -Fastag-based hurdle-cum-cum tolling system will be introduced in select locations to increase the uninterrupted movement of vehicles and reduce the congestion in the toll plaza.
The upcoming system will use a hybrid approach, combination ANPR technologyWhich identifies vehicles by reading their number plates with the existing fastag system, which depends on the radio-frequency identification (RFID) to cut tolls.
With the new system, high performance ANPR cameras and fastag readers will automatically charge vehicles, which will eliminate the need to stop at the toll plaza.
The ministry said that violars may face punishment. The statement warns that e-notis will be issued for non-non-transportation, and the failure in payment may lead to the fastag suspension.
The ministry reiterated that this technology upgrade is being piloted on select toll plazas for now and it is not a blanket nationwide rollout.
