The South African police on Monday deployed reinforcement in the Valensia Citrus-Kheti area in Eastern Cape Province, killing three foreign nationals after deadly revenge attacks.On Saturday night, violence erupted after the killing of a local person allegedly during the fight, involving local people and foreign nationals.According to a police statement quoted by AFP, violence began when community members “took the streets and allegedly attacked foreign nationals” authorities described as “random” acts of retaliation.Apart from the South African person killed in the initial incident, three foreign nationals were killed and at least ten others were injured in later attacks.The police have not confirmed the nationalities of the victims, although local media reported that many were Zimbabwe. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mazola Nakohli said, “We cannot assume that they are from a specific country.”The violence took place about 50 km north of the Gikabber near the city of Aids, where thousands of seasonal migrant workers, many of them are working during the citrus crop.
