The flow of Sudan Civil War refugees puts Chad camp under stress

Iriba: Nadjala Morrowu put his two-year-old son in his henna-tattoo for medics in his hand. Then came a painful diagnosis: little Ahma, such as many of his companions Sudani refugees, were seriously malnourished.
The pair was already on the front of a long line out of the doctors’ tent in the crowded refugee camp in Eastern Chad, which was clotting more and more people as more and more people who ran away from the civil war on the border of nearby.
“We are suffering from lack of food,” the mother complained, which, more than a year ago, had fled from a fight in Nyla in South Darfur area of Sudan.
Since his arrival at the Toloum camp, he and Ahma have had to eat every day, a bowl of Asida, a porridge made of shallls, Morrau.
Nevertheless, along with other situations in the camp, it may deteriorate as a war between the short ration Sudani Army and Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Apart from killing tens of thousands, a two -year struggle has uprooted 13 million people, out of which more than three million people have fled the country as refugees.
According to the United Nations refugee agency, one of the world’s poorest countries has taken over 770,000 of them – with many more possibilities in his way.
First infant death:
According to sources, 25,000 and 30,000 Sudani refugees already live in the Makshift Sheet Metal and White Canvas tent, which are packed simultaneously in the Tolum camp.
Recently, more and more of them have been malnourished, Desamba Adam Nagardal, a nurse with Medical Charity Doctors Bidout Borders (MSF). “Of 100 to 150 daily consultations, about half of them deal with cases of cases Malnutrition“25 -year -old drug said.
The worst cases are sent to Iiba District Hospital, about half an hour drive away. But under its care, the hospital was powerless to stop the first Sudani baby to die from malnutrition.
“Since the beginning of the month, we have already exceeded the capacity of the malnutrition ward in the hospital,” Ms. Nurse Hasan Patayamu recently said.
“And we hope that the entry will continue to increase as hot weather progresses and the temperature is above 40 ° C (104 ° F).”
‘Brothers in crisis’:
Two years after two years of Sudan’s Civil War on 15 April 2023, there is no end in sight. Neither the army chief Abdel Fattah was al-Boron, nor his rival and former sub Mohammad Hamdan Daglo, who is the head of the RSF, was present in a recent meeting in London to end the conflict.
But with the fight to grind, Chad’s government fears that the number of Sudani refugees in the country may soon reach about one million. This burden will be very heavy for the bad Chad to bear alone, the United Nations High Commissioner for refugees.
The refugee agency Sahel was demanding assistance of $ 409 million to help the country – out of which only 14 percent it received by the end of February.
“The Chadian people have a tradition of welcoming their Sudani brothers in crisis,” said Jombay Kama-Nadoh, the Governor of the Wadi Fira province, where the Toloum camp is located.
“But the population of the province has practically doubled and we are seeking major support.” Humanitarian groups are concerned with the impact of the US President Donald Trump’s steps to freeze the US foreign aid budget, while other donors, especially in Europe, have also cut their financing.
Alexandre Le Kujiat “Alexandre Le Kujiat”, Deputy Director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) at Chad, is at stake by hundreds of people at Alexandre Le Kujiat.
According to WFP, about 25 million people suffer from acute food insecurity in Sudan. And with the rainy season, under two months, medics outbreak of diseases due to fear.
“We are preparing for the explosion of malnutrition and malaria cases for MSF for MSF for MSF in Central Darfur state.”
“This year, we are also facing measles epidemic in Darfur,” he said. That unhealthy cocktail of diseases, he warned, “disastrous results”, not at least for children.
