Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelancesi We began a scary attack on us, calling it a “strong” country that reacts weakly to Russia’s attack.
Zelansky’s statement came after a Moscow missile strike in Ukraine, killing 18 people, including nine children, in Kryvi Rih’s hometown.
The attack took place on Friday when a Russian ballistic missile hit a residential neighborhood in the city of Central Ukrainian. According to Zelansky, 62 people were injured in the strike.
To take on social media on Saturday, Zelanski Expressed his disappointment with the reaction of the US embassy. “Such a strong country, such strong people – and such a weak response,” he wrote. “They are also afraid to say the word ‘Russian’, when the missile killing children was talked about.”
The US Ambassador Bridet Brink posted on X shortly after the attack, before the entire casualties were known. “Tonight a ballistic missile was killed near a playground and restaurant (Cryvi Rig). More than 50 people were injured and 16 were killed, including 16 children. That is why the war should end.”
Brink’s statement did not mention Russia as the name, criticized social media users and inspired Zelanceci’s rebuke. Many online commentators questioned why the embassy failed to characterize the attack in Moscow.
Brink, who was appointed by former President Joe Biden and has served as ambassador since May 2022, has refrained from direct naming Russia in his public comments on attacks in Ukraine recently. This marks a change from its earlier message, which regularly called Moscow for his aggression.
