New Paman Rail Bridge inaugurated by PM Modi – Rameswaram -Tambaram Express check schedule and main features of vertical lift C Bridge

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Pamban Rail Bridge in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. The new Indian Railway Bridge opened on Ram Navami connects the mainland India to Rameswaram Island. Pambon Bridge India is Vertical lift c bridgeAnd with its inauguration, railway connectivity has been restored on Rameswaram Island. Rameswaram Island It holds importance as one of one Char Dham pilgrimage Destination.
This increased connectivity will benefit those devotees who visit this spiritual destination from India and abroad throughout the year. PM Modi displayed the vertical lift mechanism of Pambon Bridge remotely, and flagged off the run run Ramameswaram-Tambaram Express Service. A Coast Guard passed under the new Pambon bridge, demonstrated its unique vertical lift mechanism.
The newly constructed Pambon Bridge, which costs around Rs 550 crore, will change the previous structure that deteriorated due to the war. This engineering Marvel represents adequate progress in the infrastructure of Indian Railways.
Rameswaram-Tambaram Express on Pambon Bridge: Schedule and Stopage
- For its regular operation, train number 16103 Taramaram-Rameswaram Express will depart from Taramram 18:10 hours to reach Rumswaram the next day. On the return journey, train number 16104 Rameswaram-Tambaram Express will depart from Rameswaram at 16:00 hours to reach Taramam in 03:45 hours the next day.
- N Marg, Trains Ramanathapuram, Paramkakudi, Manmurai, Sivaganga, Karikudi, Antangi, Pattukotai, Thiruthuripodi, Thiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Chidambaram, Tirupadiripuliyur, and Villupuram.
New Pambon Rail Bridge: Main Features – How does Pamban Bridge works?
- Train operations will stop temporarily when the vessels need to be dropped from below the vertical lift part of the Pambon Bridge. The navigation section increases vertically to ensure enough space to pass vessels.
- The newly constructed Pamban Bridge extends 2.07 km.
- The project faced a lot of difficulties due to serious conditions in pock straight. Strong sea currents, powerful winds and unexpected weather created important challenges. The sensitivity of the region for cyclone and seismic activity requires accurate engineering solutions and strong structural design.
- Indian Railways is designed to obtain a new Pambon Bridge: enabling the uninterrupted route of large ships as well as better transport capacity to adjust increased rail traffic and high speed operations.
- According to RVNL, the new Pamban Bridge displays considerable improvement compared to its predecessor, able to operate trains at a speed of 160 kmph, which is a significant increase with a limit of the previous 10 kmph. However, due to lack of signal system and track geometry, the speed of the actual train will be limited to 80 kmph.
- The newly constructed Pamban Bridge is an engineer in the last 100 years and has included advanced engineering techniques that reduce maintenance requirements.
- The navigational section of the new Pambon Bridge extends up to 72.5 meters and can be elevated to a height of 17 meters to facilitate the passage of large vessels.
- The height of the newly constructed bridge is more than 3 meters its predecessor, increases marine connectivity.
- While the foundation supports two railway tracks, the upper structure currently adjusts the same railway line.
- The durability of the bridge is ensured through the implementation of contemporary construction materials and advanced engineering methods.
- Construction includes stainless steel reinforcement, better-quality protective paint and fully welded connections.
- A special polysiloxen coating has been applied to mold the structure from corrosive effects, ensuring its durability in challenging sea conditions.
Built in 1914, the old Pambon Rail Bridge connected the mainland to Rameswaram for 105 years. Decomy was decorated due to erosion in December 2022, it paved the route to the modern new Pambon Bridge, marked a new era of connectivity
The Ministry of Railways approved the construction of a replacement bridge in February 2019 to make the existing aged structure successful.
