‘Sorry Karnataka!’ Sonu Nigam apologizes for his comment at the Bengaluru concert: ‘My love for you is bigger than my ego’

After a strong criticism on his comments at the Bangalore concert recently, Sonu Nigam has issued an apology. Initially after sharing an explanation on Instagram, the singer returned to social media to express regrets, saying that his love for Karnataka is not greater than any pride or ego.

The singer apologized on Instagram, saying, “Sorry Karnataka. My love for you is greater than my ego. You always love.” The apology, while addressing the controversy, followed his earlier explanation. In that statement, he emphasized his long respect and praise for language, culture, music and artists not only in Karnataka but around the world.
Nigam expressed his importance Kannada The songs are very high, even more than his Hindi track. He mentioned that he always included a set of Kannada songs lasting an hour in his performance in Karnataka. However, he claimed that during the concert, a fan humiliated him and a young man, whom he told about his son’s age, threatened him.
He wrote on Instagram, “I am not a young child to insult anyone. I am 51 years old, in the second half of my life, I am entitled to commit crime for someone, because my son has directly threatened me in front of thousands of people in the name of a language, which is my second language for my work too.
“I leave the sensible people of Karnataka to decide who is on the mistake here. I will accept your decision with grace. I fully respect and trust Karnataka’s law agencies and police and whatever is expected to me.
Dispute and cedar
For unfamiliar people, the dispute began on April 25, 2025 at the East Point College, when Sonu Nigam allegedly rejected the request of a fan of singing Kannada songs and in his reply referred to the Pahalgam terror attack. Due to this, an FIR was lodged against him on 3 May for allegedly making aggressive comments about the Kannadiga community. Subsequently, a formal notice was issued by the Bengaluru District Police, asking Sonu to appear before the investigating officer within a week to address the allegations.
Kannada film industry boycott
Meanwhile, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce announced that the Kannada film industry, also known as Sandalwood, would discontinue all cooperation and participation with Sonu Nigam in any upcoming projects.
