Bratislava: Slovakia’s populist leader on Wednesday exploded an European Union plan to prevent imports of Russian natural gas by the end of 2027, so that President Vladimir Putin can be denied revenue that helps fuel the war in Ukraine. The European Commission, the Executive Branch of BLOC, will submit a detailed plan next month. This will try to ban new gas contracts with Russia by the end of this year and will still use existing people in the 27-Nation European Union by the end of 2027. Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico said the plan is “absolutely unacceptable” for his country and his government was ready to veto it. He said that this step would be harmful to Slovakia and the entire European Union, as the result of gas will increase. Slovakia has a gas delivery deal with Russia that is ending in 2034, and Fico said that if the plan proceeds, it would demand compensation for damage. European Commission Chairman Ursula von Der Leyen, who is moving forward with the plan, told the European Union MPs that Russia has repeatedly proved that it is not a reliable energy supplier. “The dependence on Russia is not only bad for our safety, but also for our economy. Our energy prices cannot be decided by a hostile neighbor,” he explained members of the European Parliament in Strassburg, France. FICO also rejected the proposal to prevent imports of oil and nuclear fuel from Russia to the European Union. Hungary and Slovakia – whose leaders are considered closest to Putin in Europe – have blocked the military aid of the European Union in Ukraine and expected to oppose the European Commission’s gas schemes. FICO, a divisive person in the country and abroad, won the Parliamentary election on Russia’s pro-Russian and anti-American platform in 2003 after its leftist Smar (Disha) party. Russia is known for ideas, they have openly challenged the European Union policies on Ukraine. He is ready to become the only European Union leader to visit Moscow for the festival on Friday, marking the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany defeat in World War II. This will be his second visit to Moscow from December. His government has faced vocal opposition against Russian pro -attitude and other policies.
