Sift Kaur Samara won Gold Medal in ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Indian shooter Shift Kaur Samara secured her first person ISSF World Cup gold medal in women 50 meter rifle 3 posts Final in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Friday. The 23-year-old world record holder of Faridkot crossed the 7.2 points shortage to claim gold before India’s season-opening World Cup stage event.
Samra ended with 458.6 points in the 45-shot final, while Germany’s Anita Mongold took silver with 455.3 points. Arena Altukhova of Kazakhstan earned bronze with 445.9 points, exiting the 44th shot.

The victory helped India move second in standing with gold and bronze medals, after the first bronze at Chen Singh’s 3P event. China currently leads the standing with a gold and silver medal.
Samara qualified in the first place with a score of 590, crossing notable contestants including Olympic champion Chiara Leone and Nina Kriston of Switzerland, which failed to reach the top eight. Kazakhstan’s Olympic medalist Alexandria Le and America’s Mary Tucker also missed the qualifying cuts.
Despite a challenging beginning in the event of kneeling, Samara found his rhythm in a prone position, the leader reduced the difference with the blue Stark, while in the eighth position, 4.3 points. He made a remarkable comeback in permanent position, scored 52.3 in the first series, climbing the joint third.
Samra took the lead with a stable second series score of 51.2. He maintained his composition to finish with a score of 10.5, 10.3, 10.5, 10.0 and 9.7 for commanding win.
In skeet competitions, Paris Olympian Raiza Dhilan emerged as India’s top artist after four merit rounds. After rounds of 25, 22, 24 and 23, Dhillon has ranked sixth with a total of 94 points, which is just two points behind the leader.
Other Indian shooters in women’s skeets include Ganmet Sekhon with 92 points and Darshan Rathore in 18th position with 89 points. In men’s skeet, Bhavategh Gill scored 94 runs in 18th place, while Anant Jeet Singh Naruka and Gurjot Khangura scored 93 and 91 runs respectively.
The final round of 25 goals and the final for both men and women’s skeet programs will be held on Saturday.
