Israel says, ‘violation of orders’ caused the death of Gaza Medix, dismissed deputy commander

The Israeli army concluded that the murder of 15 emergency respondents in Gaza on March 23 was the result of “operational misunderstandings” and violation of orders, according to the findings of an internal investigation on Sunday.
The investigation determined that the soldiers believed that they were in danger from the enemy forces at the time of the incident, but were admitted to “many professional failures, violations of orders, and failure to fully report the incident”. The army also announced disciplinary measures, including the dismissal of a field commander.
The statement said, “The examination determined that the first two incidents resulted in an operational misunderstanding by the soldiers, believing that they faced a tangible threat to the enemy forces,” the statement said. “The third incident included a violation of orders during a match setting.”
The Deputy Commander of the Golani Honor Battalion will be removed from his role for “providing an incomplete and wrong report during the debrief”. Despite this, military officials described him as a “highly respected officer”, who returned from abroad to serve in Gaza after 7 October.
According to the statement to the 14th Brigade Commanding Officer, his overall responsibility will be formally reprimanded.
The IDF regretted the deaths of the citizens and said that the protocol has now been clarified to stop similar tragedies, “In high-intensity fighter areas also take care while working with rescue forces and medical personnel.”
