Disappointment on lack of recognition of musicians
Asked if the composers earn from the songs made by him, Tanish expressed disappointment on how less musicians rank in the hierarchy of the industry in their chat with Bollywood bubbles. He explained that when a song becomes a huge hit, the credit still goes to singers like Arijit Singh or Zubin Nautiyal, or sometimes to musicians like Pritam or himself. However, the first recognition often goes to actors painted in the video, as viewers usually combine songs with the scene. Tanishq Bagchi asked to expose how well -established lyricists like Saeed Quadri and Kausar Munir are often recognized by the general public despite writing some of the most popular songs of Bollywood. He shared how, in conversation, many people are unaware of their work until he explains hit tracks like “Tune Mari Entry,” “Gallian,” or “Tera Ban Junga”, which were written by these writers. He said that even Irshad Kamil is facing this issue as an honor as a person, given that lyricists may be satisfied with their work, many are unfamiliar to how to promote themselves or navigate the publicity.
PR responsibilities should not fall on musicians
Tanishq Bagchi further emphasized that veteran lyricist Irshad Kamil is now starting to detect only public relations, but ideally, they should not fall on such responsibilities on production companies. He explained how musicians are rarely given proper visibility during the film’s launch, and even in single projects, names like them often forget. He said that it is more disappointing, he said that even a small credit for the lyricist is not found on the campaigner poster. Despite the system feeling unfair, he admitted that the artists continue to work quietly, as speaking may cost them the expenses that they already have.
Struggle for recognition despite success
He concluded by expressing his frustration that despite the hard work musicians making songs for films, he does not get the belief they deserve. He told how every time he has to start and rebuild his reputation with scratch. While reflecting his success, he said that he has written so many songs with billions of views, crossing the numbers of Ed Sheeran in the last five years. However, he questioned that despite this success, he still did not recognize the level of global artists like Ed Sheeran. This issue, he believes, lies in the lack of proper acknowledgment for musicians in the industry.
