Famous writer and film historian, Hanif Zevery, spoke in a podcast, ‘Meri Saheli’ that her first case was with a woman named Maya, who worked for British Airways. He said that Bachchan’s romance started with him in Kolkata when he was working there for a company. He fell deeply in Maya’s love. But later, Big B went to Mumbai to pursue his acting career and stayed with his uncle in a bungalow. Hanif said that Maya regularly met her and her trips did not go down well with her uncle. He feared that his mother, Teji Bachchan would find out about Maya.
The author said, Maya was very bold and openly tampered with Amitabh, causing him to become uncomfortable. When Amitabh shared his concern with an actor, Mahmood’s brother, Anwar Ali, who was working with him in his first film ‘Saat Hindustani’. He asked her to participate with Maya. Anwar had told Bachchan, “You will not be able to spend your life with Maya. It will be difficult for him to fit in the Bachchan family, and as you move forward, more problems will arise.”
Thus, according to Hanif, Big B broke with Maya. Meanwhile, he later met Jaya Bachchan at the Pune Film Institute in 1970. They started developing emotions for each other when they worked together during ‘Ek Nazar’. He tied the knot in 1973 after the release of ‘Zanzer’.
