New Delhi: Fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi has not paid a maintenance fee of about Rs 63 lakh in his flat Gokul apartment In Malabar Hill, Mumbai, news agency ANI on Monday quoted a member of a society as saying.
The member told ANI that the Choksi building owns three units – on the 9th, 10th and 11th floor – and has not paid maintenance for more than seven years.
“They have seven years of maintenance. They have three units- 9th, 10th, 10th and 11th floor.
He said, “Big trees are growing in the flat and the roots will definitely damage the structural integrity of the building. This is an additional burden that we have to bear without our mistake. We have India’s legal system, faith in ED officials, and we hope we will get dues,” he said.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had earlier attacked the property.
Earlier on Monday, Justice’s Belgium Federal Public Service confirmed that Mehul Choksi was arrested on 12 April and was currently in custody. The department also said that India has presented a request for his extradition.
Sources said that at least two open-ended arrest warrants issued by a special court in Mumbai in 2018 and 2021 have been shared by Indian agencies as part of the extradition request with their Belgium counterparts.
Choksi, 65, left India on 2 January 2018. He is wanted in relation to the case related to alleged fraud by CBI and ED. 13,850 crore rupees In Punjab National Bank (PNB). Hisnephew, Nirav Modi is also accused in the same case.
According to the investigators, between 2014 and 2017, Choksi worked with her colleagues and some PNB officials, who worked to fraudulently get the foreign letters of undertaking (Lu) and Credit, which caused a loss of Rs 6,097.63 crore to the bank.
The ED has attached or seized assets worth Rs 2,565.90 crore in the case against Choksi and the court has allowed the “mudification” of all these assets.
