Pitch for Big Defense Industrial Corridor: Chandrababu Naidu wants to make fighter aircraft in Andhra Pradesh

HAL defense aircraft to be built in Andhra Pradesh? N Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and an important NDA colleague, has proposed to transfer the production facilities of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) from Karnataka to Andhra Pradesh.He has offered 10,000 acres of land in Lepkshi-Madakseera Hub, located one hour from Bangalore Airport to establish HAL’s AMCA production facility.HAL, in partnership with various private organizations, AMCA, is developing and building fighter fighter aircraft of fifth generation of India. The Chief Minister on Friday presented these plans during his meeting with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.Andhra Pradesh defense corridorDefense industrial corridors take advantage of existing manufacturing infrastructure, encouraging private sector investment. The purpose of these corridors is to promote defense and domestic production of aerospace equipment, which reduces import dependence and promotes international exports.
- The proposal involves transferring AMCA manufacturing into a paste-madcasira hub, which is conceived as the primary center of the Defense Industrial Corridor.
- Sources indicate that Naidu emphasized HAL’s obstacles within the infrastructure of Bangalore, suggested Andhra Pradesh that extended land can offer resources and increased policy incentives.
- Visakhapatnam-Akpalli hub, spread over 3,000 acres, is presented as a possible site for naval equipment and arms testing. The proposal involves nominating the maritime sector as Sea and Water SEZ, which supports both the Eastern Naval Command and the National Advanced Offshore Base.
- For jaggiahpet-donakonda hub, it is proposed to set up an IAF station in Donakonda, with 6,000 acres already identified. The comprehensive plan includes an operational air base for the Indian Air Force, logistics facilities, training centers and an R&D complex.
- Additionally, Naidu said that HAL is increasing the production of LCA and light combat helicopters by estimating orders of Rs 2.5 trillion by 2026-27, ready to support this expansion with the necessary infrastructure with Andhra Pradesh.
- The fourth industrial center spread over 4,000 acres in Quranul-Orvakal is designated for the production of military drones, robotics and sophisticated defense components.
- Defense innovation at the fifth center Tirupati is slapped for research and development activities.
