“Two victims are deceased and five persons have been taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds,” said Florida State University Police Chief Jason Trombover.
Two deaths are not students in the university, but the shooter is considered a student.
Earlier, in a statement on its social media handle, the Talhase Police Department said the campus was now safe.
The statement said, “@floridastate campus has been secured. Many law enforcement agencies remain on site for ongoing investigation. The student union and the surrounding area are still considered an active crime site. Individuals should not return to the area for any reason,” the statement says.
He said, “Basing is going on to help students reach the reunion point at Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.”
‘It was about existence’
The 21 -year -old communication student, Ryan Sedargrain, said that he and about 30 other people hid in the bowling street at the lower level of the student union after seeing the students from nearby bar.
“At that moment, it was alive,” he commented.
The 20 -year -old Joshua was in the main library of the University of Sirmans, when the alarm started warning of an active shooter. Law enforcement officers saved him and other students with their hands on their heads.
President Trump, Florida Governor Desantis React
President Donald Trump was informed on the shooting. “This is a terrible thing. It is terrible that such things happen,” he said.
Florida Governor Ron Desantis wrote on X: “Our prayers are with our FSU family and the state law enforcement is actively responding.”
Florida State University is one of the 12 public universities in the state, with the main campus in Talhasi, Florida. According to the school’s 2024 fact sheet, about 44,000 students have been enrolled in the university.
The university canceled all classes and events for Thursday, advised all to avoid coming to the main campus. It also stopped all domestic athletic events through Sunday.
