Passenger bus left a rock in Sri Lanka, 21 people died and injured at least 14 others

An official said Colombo: A passenger bus on Sunday released the rock from a rock in the Sri Lankan tea -growing mountainous country, killing 21 people and injured at least 14 others, an official said. The accident occurred near the city of Kotmale in the early hours of Sunday, which in a mountainous region of Central Sri Lanka, about 140 kilometers (86 mi) from the capital Colombo, police said. Prasanna Gunasena, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, told the media that 21 people died and 14 others were being treated in hospitals. Local televisions showed that the bus was lying on the bottom of a depression, while the workers and others helped remove the injured from the rubble. The driver was injured and among the hospitalized people for treatment. At the time of the accident, around 50 people were traveling in the bus. Police said that the bus was operated by a state -run bus company. In Sri Lanka, especially in mountainous regions, frequent careless driving and poorly maintained and narrow roads are common.
