Operation Shield: Civil Defense Mock Drills postponed India News due to ‘administrative reasons’ due to Pakistan’s border

New Delhi: In the states with Pakistan’s border states on Thursday, the citizen defense mock drill was postponed by the authorities citing “administrative reasons”.It was prescribed for states including Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir after a mock drill in the name of Operation Shield.

Gujarat, Haryana and Rajasthan Information Departments said in a circular, “It is inspired that the Civil Defense Exercise ‘Operation Shield’, which was planned to be held on 29.05.2025, has been postponed for administrative reasons.”“It is requested that the instructions required for all controllers of civil defense and other stakeholders may be issued accordingly. The next dates for practice will be released later,” it said.Meanwhile, the Punjab government wrote to the Center, on June 3, proposed as a date for executing a civil defense exercise, stating that their civil defense employees were undergoing a training conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).A senior police officer from Punjab said that the Center accepted the state government’s request to keep the drill on 3 June.The Government of India on Thursday decided to conduct a civil defense practice in all the states and center of the center areas along the western border – from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat – how to face air strikes for enemy aircraft, drones, missile attacks to other people.In the first communication, the Directorate General of Fire Services and Home Guards said that the civil defense exercise ‘Operation Shield’ will be done in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana and Chandigarh.The purpose of the drill was to test emergency response coordination, civil withdrawal protocol and inter-agency communication in case of cross-border enmity or terrorist incidents.A few weeks after India launched Operation Sindor on the night of 6-7 May, an annomous strike allegedly targeted terrorist camps and military infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (Pojk).The operation was a response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, claiming the lives of 26 citizens. India’s retaliation inspired Pakistan to launch its attacks on Indian military sites and urban areas. In response, India killed at least nine Pakistani air bases, including radar and air defense units. After several days of high-spurning action, Pakistan requested a ceasefire, which India accepted on 10 May.
