US President Donald Trumpon on Sunday indicated optimism on the ongoing nuclear talks with Iran, which described the latest round of talks “very good” and indicated that a success could be announced in the next two days.,Speaking to reporters on Termac at Morristown Airport before boarding in Air Force One, Trump said that was discussed in Rome and in the fifth round of mediation by Oman, in turn produced “real progress, serious progress” towards a possible new deal with the aim of curbing Iran’s nuclear activities.The high-level negotiations, which began in April, was unilaterally withdrawn by the US joint comprehensive plan (JCPOA) during Trump’s first term, marked the most important busyness between Washington and Tehran. The historic deal had demanded to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, offering reliefs in lieu of strict boundaries on its nuclear program.While Trump hit a positive note, described the diplomatic channel as “very, very good”, Iranian officials were more alert in their assessment. Iran’s Foreign Minister and Prominent Contesting, Abbas Araghchi called the talks “very complex to solve in two or three meetings.”Omani External Affairs Minister Badr Albusai, whose country is serving as a major intermediary, offered a measured scene of the result. Posting on X, he said that in the fifth round “some but decisive progress,” was concluded, and hoped that “the remaining issues” would be clarified in the coming days.The latest talks come beyond a significant June meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, where Iran’s nuclear activities will be reviewed. Diplomatic efforts also increase the urges on both sides to find a resolution of major provisions from the 2015 deal.Since returning to the office, Trump has revived his “maximum pressure” policy towards Iran, if tightened restrictions keeping military options on the table at diplomacy stalls. Nevertheless, Sunday’s comments have potentially suggested a soft trend, at least temporarily, as the two sides weigh the cost of continuous increase.
