Nina Gupta revealed that she continued with her relationship with Vivian Richards even after the birth of daughter Masaba: ‘We had some beautiful moments and some ugly’.

When Nina Gupta found that she was pregnant with her daughter Masaba in 1989, she immediately knew that her life was going to change forever. Choosing to embrace maternity as an unmarried woman was not a small decision – especially when father was none other than West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards. In her clear autobiography Sach Kahun Toh, Nina shared that her initial response was one of the net aristocratic class – she was “Gidi with Anand.”
Vivian Richards’s support gives his strength
However, despite the enthusiasm, Nina felt that it was only right to talk with Vivian before taking a final decision. When he responded with his support, a wave of relief was washed away on him. By moving forward, he got the strength to cope with what would become one of the boldest and most defined chapters of his life.
How to meet Nena and Vivian
In her memoir, Nina Gupta revealed that she first met Vivian Richards and took place at a dinner party organized by the Queen of Jaipur, a day after seeing her playing a match. Both joined ease during their first meeting. However, his budding friendship was briefly interrupted when Vivian returned home, as he did not exchange contact details and had no way to stay in contact.

A chance reunion reveals a relationship
The two re -joined the Delhi airport unexpectedly, and their bond quickly turned into a romantic relationship. After some time, Nina found that she was pregnant – by then, Vivian had already returned to her country. People around him faced the flood of opinion, some urged him to consider abortion and warned him about the challenges of others. Single motherhoodNina took all this. But it was only when she was alone with her thoughts that she really faced her feelings. Despite uncertainty, she felt a feeling of happiness over the possibility of becoming a mother.
Take a joint decision
Nina Gupta admitted that it was not a decision to bring a child into the world that he could make alone – it was also important to consider Vivian Richards’ outlook. To be fair and responsible, she reached her on the phone and explained the situation. He asked if he would be fine with her child. For his relief, Vivian gave a positive reply and supported his decision. That assurance gave Nina the confidence that she needed to move forward. Although she wanted the child deeply, she was also clear that she would not proceed until the father was in the agreement – her support confirmed her that she was making the right choice.

A relationship with high and climbing
After the birth of Masaba, Vivians remained as Richards, as he could, given the circumstances. Nina Gupta and Vivian’s relationship developed over time, both of them experienced and climbing. Since Vivian was already married and their relationship was long distance, it was far from traditional. Their bond passed through several stages – filled with both nutritious memories and hard moments – made it a complex and emotionally leveled chapter in Nina’s life.
Nina Gupta raised her daughter Masaba as a single mother, in which challenges with strength and grace. Years later, at the age of 59, she got associated with a chartered accountant Vivek Mehra, again found associate and love, stating that it was never late to start a new chapter in life.
