New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh may retire from international cricket, but his influence on Indian cricket continues – this time from behind the screen. Through the words of his mother, Shabnam Singh, the depth of his advice for India’s two most talented young stars – Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma – has recently come to light.
In an interview, Shabnam revealed how closely Yuvraj was with the progress of his protoles, despite his growth on the national stage of meteorite. He said, “They have these young children – Shubman and Abhishek. He sees every game that they play and call them to discuss their performance in the evening. They are just harassing him,” he said with a chakli, stressing the strong impact he still puts on them.
Although this may sound intense, this mentorship stems from the place of deep emotional investment. Yuvraj himself admitted that he is nervous to see the pair’s bat – a role reversed from his game days. He said, “When I was at the crease, my mother was nervous. Now I get nervous when they are batting,” she confessed. “I have spent a lot of time with them when they were growing up – training, advice, and just going there.”

Both Gill and Abhishek are no longer seen only as promising talent-they have become a major fixtures in India’s white balls.
