Mexico converted Google into a ‘Gulf of America’ on US Google Maps to change the name of “Gulf of”.

Mexico has sued the American version of Google Maps as a “Gulf” on the American version of Google Maps to labeled Google’s Gulf as a “Gulf of America”. Mexico President Claudia Shinbam announced on Friday that legal action had already begun, although he did not share specific details about the suit or when. The dispute came after the approval of a bill by US lawmakers that officially gives an executive order by US President Donald Trump to return to his first week’s office in January. This order, now the federal law, recognizes the part of the American Continental Shelf as a “Gulf of America”. However, Mexico argues that this applies only to the American part of the Gulf and not to the entire body of water shared by many countries. “We are all asking that the decree is respected what it is,” Shinbam said. “The United States may change the name of its own continental shelf, but not the whole Gulf. It will go beyond its authority.” The Mexican government had previously warned Google, owned by the alphabet, that it would consider legal action until the map labeling was corrected. In a response to the name changing, Shinbam jokingly stated that Mexico may begin to refer to the United States as “Mexican America”, which refers to maps after 1848 before 1848 before a large part of the first Mexican region of America.
