The sharp exchange has a deeper of enmity that now focuses on the course of a US-China confrontation-with the rest of the world caught in a crossfier.
Despite Trump’s early comprehensive approaches-targeting many business partners-they withdrew to most countries this week, offering a 90-day stop to encourage direct talks. “Countries are lining to interact,” he said on Wednesday, accepting the market turmoil.

Australian PM Anthony Albanis called for a joint front, saying, “We are standing on our two legs.” Australia had a stressful relationship with China since 2020, when it called for an independent investigation into the origin of Kovid -19 -leading to the Chinese trade sanctions.
India is also allegedly not ready to join the cause of China, and even Russia – is often aligned with Beijing – is clearly absent from the tariff list. Meanwhile, Taiwan, 32% of American tariffs, is preparing to interact with Washington. External Affairs Minister Lynn Chia-Lung confirmed that the discussion was going on, emphasizing Taiwan’s important role in global chip production.
In Hong Kong, China’s Foreign Ministry released a scary rebuke of the US pressure strategy. “A tariff-speech barbaric … can never expect that call from China,” spokes Huang Jingrui wrote in an op-ed in the South China Morning Post.
Markets swing wildly
Despite uncertainty, the global markets rose on Thursday on Trump’s temporary withdrawal. Japan’s Nikkei jumped over 9%, while Germany’s dax increased by 7.5%. France’s CAC climbed 7.2%and 5.4%in London’s FTSE 100. However, the US Futures slipped-SANDP 500 fell 0.4% and Dow Jones fell down 0.2%-because investors processed long-term implications.
Chinese stocks raised marginally, a cautious and non-tariff repridged warnings between tight-for-tat tariff hikes, including possible sanctions on American films and service industries.
What will happen next?
While Trump carried forward the matter-by-case conversation, stress is high. “We won’t sit silly,” Lynn warned. “China will protect its rights and oppose unilateral force.”
With the world at an intersection and global trade, the show now focuses on China’s multilateral resistance strategy – or Trump’s gambling – will win the day on a direct confrontation.
