‘Major points agreed’: Trump claims that the Russia-Ukraine ceasefire ‘very close’

US President Donald Trump on Saturday claimed that Russia and Ukraine were with a ceasefire agreement, saying that “most major points are agreed” and urged both sides to organize high-level talks to “finish it”.
Posting from Rome on Friday, where he is participating in the funeral of Pope Francis, Trump said the truth social, “Just landed in Rome. A good day in conversation and meetings with Russia and Ukraine. They are very close to a deal, and both sides should now fulfill, ‘to finish,’ to finish. Most of the major points are expressed.
His comment came soon after his messenger, Steve Witcoff held a three -hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Kremlin’s colleague Yuri Ushkov confirmed that the talks were “creative” and a discussion on the possibility of renewing direct talks with Ukraine, indicating a rare alignment between the US and Russian positions. The Ukrainian and Russian delegation have not met for direct talks since the early months of the war, which began in February 2022.
While Trump insisted that the war may end rapidly under his leadership, his push for a deal comes with controversial expectations. In an interview published on Friday, he said: “Crimea will live with Russia,” saying “he understands Zelansky.” Trump has previously pressed Ukraine, despite the firm trend of the kev that no possession will be done.
Talking to reporters before leaving for Rome, Trump reiterated his wish for Swift resolve, but said there was no formal deadline. He said, “I want to do it as soon as possible,” he said that the negotiaters were “very close” to an agreement.
His first foreign trip to Rome after returning to the White House matches with increasing pressure for a success. Despite Putin’s topical rebels, Trump has largely convicted Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelanski for prolonging the war by opposing regional concessions. On social media, he recently urged Zelancesi to sign a pending agreement “immediately”, which provides American access to Ukraine’s mineral resources.
The zelansky remains firm, it reiterates that the Ukrainian region, especially identifying Russian claims on Crimea, is a red line. Meanwhile, Russia continued its attack. On Friday, a drone strike killed three citizens in South -East Ukraine, the latest in a range of deadly attacks.
