New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday lighted the ‘Made in India’ fighter jet program to produce the fifth generation stealth fighter jet, Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).India is working on an ambitious AMCA project to develop a medium-wise, deep-linked fighter jet with advanced stealth capabilities to increase its air power. With AMCA, Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), the Indian Air Force (IAF) is expected to be the backbone in the coming decades. The Defense Ministry said, “In a significant push towards increasing India’s indigenous defense capabilities and promoting a strong domestic aerospace industrial ecosystem, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the advanced medium fighter aircraft (AMCA) program execution model.”The ministry said that private sector companies are invited to participate in the project. The ministry said in a statement, “They can either bid either independently or as a joint venture or as Consortia. The armed forces took the step after the armed forces after killing more than 100 terrorists in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir with Pakistan.Meanwhile, recently an American Intel report also claimed that Last year, the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi provided reliable approval for the AMCA program. The indigenous fifth generation fighter jet project is expected to play an important role in strengthening IAF’s fighter capabilities. The estimated development cost of the AMCA project is around Rs 15,000 crore.IAF has long advocated for the AMCA program, with its long -term strategic needs and the absence of the fifth generation fighter jet in its current fleet. In contrast, China has already included its Chengdu J -20 jet, which it claims to be with accurate strike capabilities with fifth generation air superiority fighters.India’s trust in the AMCA initiative received a major boost after the successful development of LCA Tejas.Developed by state-operated Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Tejas has proved a competent platform for air war and aggressive missions, with secondary roles in reconnaissance and ship-ship operations.Meanwhile, IAF is also in the process of obtaining 114 multi-roll fighter aircraft (MRFA) to increase its operational readiness. In April 2019, IAF issued a request for information (RFI) for purchase, an estimated 18 billion USD. The MRFA deal has been considered one of the largest military procurement programs globally in recent years.
