The United Nations World Tourism Organization (United Nations Tourism) has chosen Shekha Al Novis as the next General Secretary of United Nations Tourism. She will be the first woman to lead the organization since her establishment in 1975, marking 50 years of her history.NOWAIS is ready to start its term in January 2026, after the retirement of the current General Secretary Zirab Poolika Sywili. The decision to appoint NOWAIS was taken in the 123rd session of the United Nations Tourism Council meeting held in Spain on 30 May.As a general secretary, NOWAIS aims to focus on stability, digital change, economic empowerment, moral rule and cultural exchange. Its goal is to build an inclusive and innovative tourism sector that helps in running global prosperity.According to his official website, NOWAIS’s vision is “responsible, durable and universally accessible to promote the United Nations Tourism in promoting tourism that stimulates economic growth and enrich global communities.”The leader of the Emirati Business, Nois has more than 16 years of experience in the global hospitality industry. She is currently the corporate vice -president of owner relation management in the Rotana Hotel series, where she manages the owner relationship in the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe and Turkey.She has widespread experience in corporate administration, stability and economic development and is known for her strategic vision in furthering global tourism initiative.A graduate from Zaid University, Dubai’s Tourism in Finance, NoS also presides over the tourism working group of Abu Dhabi Chamber and Abu Dhabi Businesswoman Council and Les Rousse House Hospitality Academy. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, Speaker of Arab Parliament, has congratulated Sheikh Nasir al Novis for his election as the new general secretary of United Nations Tourism.In a statement, Al Yamahi praised the achievement of Amirti women at both regional and international levels as a reflection of great success.
