New Delhi: India’s middle-order batsman and Punjab kings Skipper Shres Iyer experienced an emotional moment during the first practice session of the Champions Trophy 2025, where he found himself in tears due to inability to perform as expected.
Despite coming out of a successful series against England, Iyer struggled with his form in the nets, leading to a rare performance of vulnerability. This phenomenon marked a significant moment for Iyer, which rarely accepted to cry.

“The last time I cried, during the Champions Trophy, the first practice session. As was crying, crying. Because I batted in the trap, and it was not cured. I was so angry with myself that I was crying. And I was also surprised at the fact that I was easily crying,” Sris Year said at the Punjab Kings Show.

However, his flexibility and ability to understand the situations made quickly, as he became an important player for India in the Champions Trophy. His contribution was particularly notable in the final, where he scored 48 off 62 balls, helping his team in the middle overs.
Under Iyer’s captaincy, Punjab Kings suffered a huge defeat to Rajasthan Royals in Mulanpur, as their IPL 2025 campaign tasted their first defeat.
Chasing a difficult 206, PBKS stumbled quickly with both openers, including Captain Shres Iyer, a fierce Joffra Archer dismissed inside the powerplay.
The Archer ended with 3/25, setting the tone for Rajasthan’s commanding bowling performance.
Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal acted with the bat, scored a fluent 67 off 45 balls, supported by Sanju Samson (38) and flourishes late with Ryan Parag (43 Not Out). His efforts brought RR to a formidable 205/4. Despite some resistance in the middle order, PBK could not recover from the initial blow and ended at 155/9.
This disadvantage increases concerns for Punjab, especially around his top-order delicateness and inseparable form of Captain Iyer, while Rajasthan Royals promoted very important speeds with victory and a healthy net run rate.
