Cost-cutting measures for animation and international shoots
One of the unique elements of Hum Tum was its animated sequences that featured cartoon characters. Kohli revealed that he managed to keep the cost of animation for simplifying the scenes for only Rs 50 lakh. “I just placed the basic drawings of cartoons and removed the background, 3D, and everything,” they explained.
Budget shortage also affected the international shoot. While the film had scenes set in Paris and New York, they were actually shot in Amsterdam. Karan Johar also helped New York source stock footage during the shooting of Kal Ho Na Ho.

Rishi Kapoor Initially refused to do a cameo
Kunal Kohli also shared how the late Rishi Kapoor was hesitant to play a guest role in the tumor due to his history with Yash Raj Films. “Rishi ji said to me, ‘I do not have a guest appearance in films, especially in a Yash Raj Films Production, because I have always played the role of a hero and have done important films for him.” However, he eventually agreed to the cameo, adding another memorable performance to the film.
