Japan’s Osaka expo temporarily suspends water show after high levels of bacteria

Tokyo: The popular daily fountain shows and a shallow pool area in the expo 2025 in Osaka have been temporarily suspended due to contamination of bacteria, which requires cleaning and safety checks, the event organizers said on Monday. The aquatic show at the water plaza has been suspended from June 4, when Legionela bacteria were found to be 20 times the legal limit in water, after a week after the lower level of contamination. Another water zone, which is called the Forest of Tranctility more than 2.3 hectares (5.7 acres), where visitors can soak their feet and also rest for cleaning due to legionella contamination, which can lead to pneumonia. Bacteria contamination is the latest problem killing the expo site, where flocks of midz have been harassing visitors since weeks. The site built at a former industrial waste burial site in Osaka Bay in Western Japan, where methane gas was detected before the inauguration in April. The use of pesticides has not been effectively blocked by effectively. The organizers say that now they believe that the source of midz is a water plaza and additional measures are going on, such as installing insect screen. The organizers have also taken anti-bacterial measures in water areas, including increase in hygiene, cleanliness pipes cleaning and increase in water circulation, to improve water quality in the reservoir and get approval to reopen from health authorities. Japan Association General Secretary Hiroyuki Ishge for the 2025 World Exhibition said that the organizers should have worked more quickly to close the water sector after detecting the increased level of contamination. Ishige told a media briefing on Monday, “We apologize on the inconveniences that we have given to visitors who were ready for (water) shows.” The organizers say that the issue of health has not been reported. The Osaka Expo consists of participants from over 160 countries, regions and organizations that are displaying their future performances. The organizers expected 28 million visitors in mid -October.
