Iran, Azerbaijan hold joint military drill | world News

Tehran, May 18, 2025 -Iran and Azerbaijan have started practicing a joint special forces, the state media in the Islamic Republic said on Sunday that the President of Iran visited the neighboring country weeks after weeks.The IRNA news agency reported that “ARAS-2025” exercises are going on till May 21, including Iran’s Islamic revolutionary guard corps and Azerbaijni soldiers.In September 2023, Drill was being organized in the areas of disputed Karbakh with Armenia before Azerbaijan gained control.“This drill is an important step in promoting border security and facing potential threats,” said Brigadier General Wali Madni of Ground forces of the guards.Last month, Iranian President Masaud Peseshakian made a rare visit to Baku, where he met his Azerbaijni counterpart Ilham Aliyev.“Iran will try to ensure that his relationship with Azerbaijan is strategic in all fields,” said Pesesian at that time.The relationship between the two neighbors was Azerbaijan’s close security cooperation with Israel and a deadly 2023 attack on their embassy in Tehran.Baku re -revealed the embassy in mid -2024 and the attacker was sentenced to death.Tehran has been strongly opposed to the so -called Zangzur Corridor, which connects Azerbaijan to Türkiye that will run with Iran’s border with Armenia.In November, the two countries conducted a joint naval exercise in the Caspian Sea.
