‘People add very little value to your feelings’: R Ashwin opens on retirement call. Cricket news

Former Indian off-spinner R Ashwin revealed that he considered his retirement after his 100th test, but took a final decision during the tour of Australia when he was selected for the Perth Test, instead Washington was playing beautiful. Ashwin, who retired in Gabba after a third test against Australia, shared these details during a new podcast by Chennai Super Kings with Mike Hussey.
Ashwin played his last Test match in Gabba after the characteristic of the second Test in Adelaide. He was left out of eleven of playing for the third Test, where he declared his retirement.
The 38 -year -old spinner, who is currently playing for Chennai Super Kings, finished his Test career with 537 scale as India’s second biggest wicket -taker.
“To be very honest, I wanted to do it after my 100th Test. And then I thought, okay, let me go to the house season. Because, I mean, you are playing well, and you are getting wickets, you are scoring, you are scoring,” Ashwin said.
He said, “I felt that I would probably be closed here with the Chennai Test. I finished six-wickets and hundred. So it is very difficult to leave it when you are doing very well.”
“So, I proceeded with the series, and we lost against New Zealand. So, one after the other, it was just building. And then I thought, okay, okay, let me go to Australia. Let me see how it goes. Because the last time I was in Australia, I had a great, great tour.”
The family’s time was becoming an important factor in his decision to retire. The physical and mental demands of the game were taking their tolls.

“I thought it makes sense to play a little. I was having a lot of fun, but the whole hard yards that I had to put myself in the park, physically and mentally, one of the most important things that was pulling me down was family time,” he explained.

His non-selection in Perth eventually influenced his decision to retire. “And when I did not start in Perth, it was liked, well, this whole cycle goes on again. People add very little value to what you are doing emotionally,” Ashwin said.
“They really don’t consider this because your feelings are yours, and it doesn’t matter to anyone else. So I was considering it, and then I thought, well, it’s probably time.”
