We realized that we could not have a better meeting.”The delegation used the opportunity to express its concerns and objectives on the mission of creating international consensus around India’s anti-terrorism attitude. Tharur said, “I talked to the delegation and in return we got the same kind of response that we wanted. So, I think we left very happy.”The delegation led by Tharoor concluded its diplomatic mission late on Sunday night. On the last day of the tour, the delegation paid tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Washington. Tharoor later posted on X: “It is striking how many world capitals are adorned with Mahatma’s idols or bust, the greatest inspiration for the 20th century peace, non -violence and human freedom.”The group reached Washington on 3 June after stopping in Guyana, Panama, Columbia and Brazil. He met several leading American leaders, including JD Vance, State Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau, senior Congress members, policy experts and Indian-American communities.Sterur described the meeting with Vance as a “excellent meeting” and said that the Vice President was “hot and receptive.” He said that Vance “expressed full understanding, first of all, resentment and respect for India’s restrained response to Operation Sindoor from what happened in Pahgam.” A spokesman for the US State Department said that Landau “confirmed India’s strong support in the fight against terrorism and the strategic partnership between the two countries.”The meeting was part of the ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen relations between India and the United States, both sides were engaged in open and creative dialogues. Its main objective was to build a consensus on India’s counter terrorism stance late on Sunday night, with the final phase of a diplomatic mission to build international consensus on India’s anti-terrorism stance after the April 22 terror attack in Pahgam, in which 26 people were killed.
