RIYADH: India and Saudi Arabia have agreed to deepen cooperation in technology and tourism, highlighting new areas of partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit on 22 April 2025 in the state.
The two sides identified emerging technologies, digital governance and sustainable tourism, as key drivers of future bilateral engagement, in an official press release by the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea).
Emphasizing the strategic importance of technical cooperation, the two nations agreed to work closely in areas such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, semiconductors and other advanced areas. The leaders underlined the transformational role of digital rule and committed to the discovery of a joint initiative in this domain.
As a major step, both sides welcomed the signature of India’s Telecom Regulatory Authority and Saudi Arabia to sign an MoU between the Communications, Space and Technology Commission. The agreement aims to promote cooperation in regulatory practices and digital field development, strengthening shared priorities in innovation and connectivity.
Tourism also emerged as a major pillar of the developing relationship. India and Saudi Arabia agreed to increase cooperation in the tourism sector through capacity building, knowledge exchange and permanent tourism practices, stating in a press release.
The two sides referred to the increasing ability to cooperate in media, entertainment and sports supported by strong cultural and people’s connection to people.
The journey launched at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulziz Al Saud, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third visit to the state. It built the Crown Prince’s historic visit in September 2023, where he co-headed the first meeting of the Indo-Sawy Arab Strategic Participation Council and attended the G20 summit.
Beyond tech and tourism, leaders also confirmed shared commitments in other major areas including climate action, circular carbon economy and regional security. The two sides expressed satisfaction with the intensity of cooperation in cyber security, marine border security, and counter-nashi efforts.
