New Delhi: India is likely to receive more rainfall than this monsoon season, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.Updating its forecast, IMD stated that the country would receive 106% of long -term (LPA) rainfall during the season of June to September. This is a small increase from its earlier estimate of 105%, but still falls under the “above normal” category.IMD also shared the details of how the rain would have spread in the areas. Central and peninsular India are expected to receive above normal rainfall, while North Western India is likely to receive normal rainfall. However, Northeast India can see below normal rainfall in this season. In addition, the department predicted the monsoon core zone, above normal rainfall for areas where agriculture depends on heavy rainfall. It is seen as a good sign for overall farming activities.Officials said that the forecast brings a positive attitude for crop sowing and rural livelihood. The monsoon saves about 70% of India’s annual rainfall and is important for the country’s agriculture, which still depends on less farming than the rain.
